Congratulations to
CPO (Ops)(HQ) Tony "Maggot" Matthews
who has been awarded the Queen's Volunteer Reserves Medal in the New Year Honours 2004

Congratulations are also due to Tony on his selection for promotion to Warrant Officer RNR, the first to be promoted through the ranks of the RNR. Tony was a much valued rating of HMS Wildfire before transfer to HMS President on the closure of the unit.

This web site is under development. Work is being carried out to develop the 1964-1989 pages first.

The site is an account of the history of the Royal Naval Reserve in the Medway Towns from the Commissioning of HMS WILDFIRE in 1964 as a HQ Unit attached to Flag Officer Medway to the present.

It concentrates on the period up to 1989. An anniversary book was prepared for the 25th Anniversary celebrations in 1989 by Lieut Commander Bill Hagger RD RNR, but not published. That explains the reason for dividing the site into pre and post 1989. Without his assiduous work this site would not have been possible. Copies of the Anniversary book can be obtained from Bill - e-mail for details.

The spirit of HMS WILDFIRE lives on in the form of the Nymphe Society where former members of the ship's company continue to meet on a regular basis.

More recently the Royal Naval Reserve has returned to the Medway Towns in the form of the thriving Medway Division of HMS PRESIDENT, the London Reserves Training Centre.

Since 2000 the ship's name HMS WILDFIRE has again been part of the RNR. The Reserves Training Centre at Northwood, in north west London, now bears the name.

To find out more about the Royal Naval Reserve visit the Centenary web site, where you can also find contact details for RNR Reserves Training Centres.
